Rethinking The Ordinary

This project proposes a comprehensive redesign of the brand’s packaging system, rethinking packaging as an active interface rather than a static container.

The solution is a modular, refillable packaging system designed to improve usability, accessibility, and sustainability. A durable primary container is combined with interchangeable refill units, reducing material waste while supporting long-term use. Clear product categorization, step indicators, and color-coded accents help users understand product purpose, order, and application at a glance.

The design integrates tactile elements and Braille labeling to support inclusive use, while a consistent dispensing and locking mechanism ensures intuitive, one-handed operation. Information hierarchy and typography were refined to make complex skincare content easier to navigate without compromising the brand’s clinical, evidence-based identity.

The result is a user-centered packaging concept that simplifies routines, increases accessibility, and translates The Ordinary’s scientific approach into a system that is clear, responsible, and practical in everyday use.
